Why work together?
The potential: Powerful social studies teaching can transform how students see themselves and the world. At its best, it helps them navigate complexity and contribute to a thriving, democratic society. Realizing this potential is as challenging as it is rewarding.
The challenge: Educators, too, deserve transformational learning experiences. Fulfilling the promise of an inquiry approach means examining and renewing the practices, beliefs, and identities we bring to the classroom.
The work: That often means teaching differently than we were taught; creating opportunities for students to question, analyze sources, and use evidence to construct meaningful understandings of themselves and the world. My work is about helping educators realize this potential in their practice.

What is it like to work together?
Something that was very valuable was the time we had to reflect to give meaning to what we were doing. When everything is done in a hurry, the time to listen deeply disappears. Matt assured us that all voices would be heard and that takes time. This was very valuable. |
Honestly, you can tell that Matt is a teacher b/c he leads the PD sessions the way a teacher would do so with students so that we can see the process and go through it ourselves. After each session I already had some activities planned b/c I was so inspired. |
